Michael, 1. The foam is for the screws if they rattle. The tar is for the speaker grill if it doesn't fit snugly. 2. If possible, stuff the un-insulated wall with some bat insulation to even out the two sides. The liners available constrict the air pressure needed behind the speaker, inhibiting bass (lows).
Name : Michael Mullins Message : Just received the speakers and have a couple of questions. 1. There are 2 small packages included with the speakers, one with pieces of white foam and another with a number of black tar-like tabs; there are no instructions on where/how to use these items!? 2. I must install one of the in-wall speakers in an exterior wall (6") which will be filled with a bat type insulation; will this cause a difference between the left/right front speakers? Would a 2-1/2" rigid foam liner for both wall cavities be a good way to go instead? Thanks, MG Mullins
